Leaked GTA Online Revenue Shows Why Rockstar Is Prioritizing Consoles Over PC for GTA 6
Fresh data from the ShinyHunters breach reveals GTA Online earns $9.5 million per week — with console accounting for $8.2M and PC a mere $264K. The numbers explain why Rockstar continues to deprioritize PC development for GTA 6.
Hacker group ShinyHunters has released a trove of data stolen from Rockstar Games via a third-party service, and while Rockstar calls it "a limited amount of non-material company information," the figures now in circulation tell a compelling story about the franchise's economics.
According to data verified by Kotaku (though not confirmed with Rockstar directly), GTA Online made $9,592,109 per week between September 2025 and April 2026. Of that sum, $8,245,974 came from console platforms — with PlayStation accounting for the lion's share at $4,486,346 (PS5) and $973,308 (PS4). Xbox Series X and Xbox One contributed $2,786,320 combined. PC? A mere $264,273.
This revenue gap offers a clear explanation for why Rockstar has repeatedly refused to announce a PC release date for GTA 6, despite confirming a November 19, 2026 console launch. When Strauss Zelnick, CEO of parent company Take-Two Interactive, noted in 2025 that PC ports can account for over 40% of total sales, he was speaking to potential — not current reality for the GTA franchise.
Rockstar is also currently engaged in a legal battle with former GTA 6 developers accused of union-busting, and has recently laid off its head of AI among other staff members, reflecting broader industry pressures as the studio approaches its most anticipated release in a decade.
