GTA 6 boss explains why he's 'terrified' about the game finally releasing
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick admitted he is 'terrified' about GTA 6's massive expectations ahead of its November 2026 launch, calling it a 'daunting challenge' to create 'the most spectacular piece of entertainment on Earth, in history.'
Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick admitted he is 'terrified' about GTA 6's release given the massive expectations placed on the game, after two delays that pushed the launch to November 19, 2026.
Speaking at the iicon conference in Las Vegas on April 28, the Take-Two CEO was discussing how the game's success will be measured by the publisher and Rockstar Games. The long-awaited sequel to 2013's GTA V has been one of the most anticipated games in history.
That combination of factors — a decade of hype, two delays, and the weight of being Rockstar's most important launch ever — has left Zelnick feeling the pressure. 'What we think about is making the most spectacular piece of entertainment on Earth, in history, and it's a pretty daunting challenge,' he said at the conference.
Despite the fear, Zelnick also expressed excitement about the gaming world finally getting its hands on what the studio has been building for years. The CEO reaffirmed his confidence in the November release date, quipping that many people will be calling in sick from school and work once the game launches.
The Take-Two boss also revealed that the game's marketing campaign will begin 'soon,' ramping up ahead of the holiday 2026 launch window. New trailers and gameplay information are expected to surface over the coming months as Rockstar builds toward release.
Zelnick also opened the door to a potential L.A. Noire sequel, saying that the company is 'looking at doing something in the future' with 'all of our intellectual property,' though he had 'nothing to announce' about specific projects at this time.
GTA 6 is set to launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026. The game will mark the series' return to Vice City and introduce an entirely new state of Leonida as the open world setting.
