GTA 6 Online Release Window Reportedly Leaked — December 2026 Launch Within a Month of Main Game
Gaming leaker GhostOfHope claims GTA 6 Online is planned to launch within a month after the main game drops on November 19, 2026, backing up long-standing assumptions about Rockstar's multiplayer strategy.
With the highly anticipated launch of Grand Theft Auto 6 now confirmed for November 19, 2026, fans have been eagerly speculating about what the future holds for the franchise's iconic online component. While many have assumed Rockstar Games would follow the same pattern as previous entries by opening up multiplayer a few weeks after launch, a new leak from a credible insider is now adding fuel to those theories.
Gaming leaker GhostOfHope — a former Call of Duty insider who was legally obliged to stop posting CoD leaks — shared on April 8 that the current plan is for GTA 6 Online to launch within a month after the main game releases. This would place the multiplayer debut around December 2026, directly competing against the rumored arrival of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 in the holiday season.
GhostOfHope also downplayed claims that GTA 6 Online would launch at the same time as the single-player experience, citing the famously "disastrous" rollout of GTA Online back in 2013 as a key reason Rockstar would want to avoid repeating that mistake. The 2013 launch saw overloaded servers, lost progress, and widespread player frustration that took months to fully resolve.
So far, Take-Two Interactive has remained tight-lipped about the specifics of GTA Online's future, only confirming that they will continue supporting the current iteration of GTA Online for as long as there is demand. During Take-Two's February earnings call, CEO Strauss Zelnick stated that the company sees no reason to end support for a game that continues to generate enormous revenue year after year.
The reported December 2026 window for GTA 6 Online would give Rockstar a crucial buffer to polish the multiplayer experience before opening the servers to millions of players worldwide — a strategy that proved successful with Red Dead Redemption 2's Online component.
