GTA 6 Hackers Say They Will Release The Breached Data After Ransom Demands Not Met
Hacker group ShinyHunters plans to leak stolen Rockstar Games data after the company's ransom deadline passed without payment.
The hacking group ShinyHunters has announced plans to publish stolen Rockstar Games data online after the company's ransom demands were not met, according to reports from the BBC and Kotaku.
On Saturday, April 11, 2026, it was reported that ShinyHunters had gained access to Rockstar's servers hosted on Snowflake, a cloud data platform. The hackers then threatened to release the stolen data unless Rockstar paid a ransom. Rockstar quickly responded, stating that 'a limited amount of non-material company information was accessed' and that the breach would have 'no impact on our organization or our players.'
The breach reportedly occurred after a security breach of Anodot, a cloud cost monitoring and analytics service, which allowed ShinyHunters to access data on Snowflake servers. ShinyHunters, described by the BBC as 'a prolific group of English-speaking cybercriminals, thought to be in their teens,' gave Rockstar until April 14 to pay the ransom.
Despite the threats, Rockstar appears unconcerned. Law enforcement agencies widely advise against paying ransoms, as doing so legitimizes the criminal business model while not guaranteeing the data won't be leaked anyway. The stolen data, if released, will likely appear on dark web forums before filtering to the wider public.
The incident marks another security challenge for Rockstar ahead of GTA 6's highly anticipated November 19, 2026 release, though the company insists the breach will not affect its operations or player base.
