GTA 6 Comes to Consoles Before PC: 'Core Customers Must Be Served First and Best' — Zelnick
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick explained in a Bloomberg interview why GTA 6 skips PC at launch — Rockstar 'always starts on console,' serving core gamers first. PC gaming now accounts for half of Take-Two's sales, but Zelnick says the historic pattern won't change.
GTA 6 won't be coming to PC this November — but it's not being ruled out entirely. That's according to Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick, who shared more details about the decision in a new interview conducted by Bloomberg's Jason Schreier at the iicon conference in Las Vegas last week.
When asked why GTA VI is launching exclusively on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026 — with no PC version confirmed — Zelnick was clear: 'Rockstar always starts on console.' His reasoning goes deeper than tradition. 'You're judged by serving the core. Like really serving the core consumer. If your core consumer isn't there, if they're not served first and best, you kind of don't hit your other consumers,' he said.
Some rumours had suggested Rockstar is prioritising console due to an alleged exclusivity contract with PlayStation. Zelnick shut that down — pointing out the game is also on Xbox on day one. The real explanation, he says, is simply Rockstar's historic release cadence for its own titles.
It's a strategy that dates back nearly two decades. Zelnick revealed that when he first became Take-Two CEO, PC sales made up only around 5% of the company's total install base. That has changed dramatically: PC now accounts for up to half of Take-Two's revenue. Games like GTA V and mods such as FiveM have kept PC players deeply engaged with Rockstar's ecosystem. Despite this shift, Zelnick remained characteristically unbothered: 'We'll see how it works out.'
This wasn't the only notable comment Zelnick made during the Las Vegas event. He also doubled down on what he calls an 'astonishing' marketing cycle that will begin 'soon' — adding to fan speculation that GTA 6 Trailer 3 could drop any day now. He addressed pricing concerns too, amid ongoing debate about whether the game could cost $100. 'It feels like no matter the price of the game, it will break records in a way that may never be broken again,' Zelnick said. He even hinted at a future for another Rockstar franchise — though he didn't elaborate.
We're inching closer to pre-orders opening for GTA VI. Rockstar is yet to confirm a specific date, but the traditional marketing window suggests the floodgates could open this month.
