Former GTA 6 Dev Issues Warning About How the Final Game Will Stack Up Compared to Trailer 3

A former Rockstar environmental artist who worked on GTA 6 has warned fans not to treat the upcoming third trailer as a final representation of the game, explaining that trailer scenes are heavily polished while other areas remain unfinished.

A former Rockstar developer who worked on GTA 6 as an artist has issued a warning about the game's third trailer, despite being extremely excited about it.

GTA 6 is finally set to launch on November 19, 2026 after years of waiting. So far, Rockstar has been mum about gameplay details for the open-world title and has only released a couple of trailers and a handful of screenshots.

On May 6, it will have been one full year since the game's second trailer debuted, and fans have been eagerly waiting for the third trailer to drop and reveal more details about the return to Vice City, the state of Leonida, and protagonists Jason and Lucia.

GTA players aren't the only ones excited, either. David O'Reilly, an environmental artist who worked at Rockstar for titles like GTA 5, RDR2, and GTA 6 can't wait to see the new footage, but had a warning for fans about what they might see.

Speaking with YouTuber Kiwi Talkz, O'Reilly explained that while he "can't wait" for trailer 3, players should be aware of some tricks that come with putting together a heavily produced piece of content.

"When you make a trailer, they look at where the camera's going to be, and everything in that view is getting madly polished, whereas everything not in that view isn't getting madly polished yet," he noted.

"The whole world doesn't look like that. You focus on the areas of the trailer, and that's the projection of what the entire full game is going to be like. That's why you get differences in trailers and the final game. You can't view that as, 'That's locked down now. That tree will be there when it releases.' You can't look at it like that."

According to O'Reilly, much of what's seen in the trailer will have changed by the time the game releases, but urged players to remain calm once the game comes out and they start looking for differences.

"Relax, dude. It's a trailer. It's not finished!" he remarked.

Still, the former dev reiterated his excitement, especially seeing how the city looks compared to the last time he worked on the game.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is largely considered to be the most anticipated game of all time, with one insider going as far as saying no other developer will match what Rockstar is doing with GTA 6 for 15-20 years.

While a big marketing push is slated to begin in the summer, we still don't know exactly when trailer 3 will drop.
