GTA 6 Trailer 3 Update 'Splits Gamers' — Zelnick's 'Soon' Answer Frustrates Fans

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick offered only a vague 'Soon' when asked about new GTA 6 marketing at the iicon games conference, leaving fans frustrated after two major delays and months of radio silence from Rockstar.

GTA 6 Trailer 3 Update 'Splits Gamers' — Zelnick's 'Soon' Answer Frustrates Fans

Key update

Gamers hate nothing more than having to wait indefinitely. Fans of Duke Nukem (if there are any left) had to wait almost 15 years to get a disastrous sequel from their blonde block-headed hero. Half-Life fans have been 21 years for Gabe to announce Half-Life 3 and the clock just keeps on ticking. Delays are forgivable if it means we get a better finished product, but Grand Theft Auto 6 fans' patience is certainly wearing thin.

Why it matters

With Grand Theft Auto 6 still due to release in November 2026, everyone is getting a little nervous about the lack of reveals and/or ad campaigns. Sure, GTA 6 can sell itself without much promotion, but it's a worrying sign that perhaps yet another delay is inevitable. Surely we should have a new gameplay trailer or showcase by now? Unfortunately, Strauss Zelnick hasn't put anyone's mind at ease about the release date when asked about it at the iicon games conference.

What to watch

Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, was quizzed by Variety interviewer Jenny Maas on many topics. But when the question of when fans could expect new marketing for GTA 6 to surface, the answer was disappointingly vague. Strauss only responded with a one-word answer of 'Soon'. This half-hearted response is a worry for fans and while it doesn't necessarily spell a further expected release date delay, it certainly doesn't put any minds at ease.

Context

With the month of May fast approaching, it's not unreasonable for fans of GTA 6 to expect to see more reveals of the game by now. Any decent marketing campaign should at least start well before the six-month mark, and even though Take-Two Interactive aren't going to have any problem selling one or two copies of GTA 6, we should be seeing something new by now. Gamers are marking their calendars for some new content for the summer. Is a new third GTA 6 trailer too much to ask for Rockstar?

Bottom line

We've already had two major delays to the release of Grand Theft Auto 6, which has some fans feeling nervous about November. First it was meant to launch back in 2025, then it was delayed until May 2026 and delayed yet again until November 2026. With it being one of the most anticipated games of all time, it's understandable that fans are irked. On the positive side, Rockstar has never had any previous games delayed more than twice, so statistically, GTA VI is still on track for November 2026.

Update 6

Only time will tell whether another delay is on the cards. Taking a positive approach, Strauss didn't say anything to suggest it was going to be delayed for a third time. The month of May should be interesting as Grand Theft Auto 6 was meant to come out then, so it would make sense that Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive might release some new content to appease the fans. November 2026 still feels so very far away.
